Our stories

From South London, Streatham, I’ve grown up playing football all my life. I’ve played for professional academies in England including AFC Wimbledon, Colchester, Wycombe, and Brentford. I’ve played semi-professionally in England since I was 16 and for a brief time in Spain’s 4th division.

I was in the AFC Wimbledon academy for 7 years from 8 to 15 years old where I honed my technical skill and understanding of the game. When I was released due to an ongoing knee injury and lack of physical development, it motivated me to try and prove them wrong.

My coaching journey started when I left Kinetic Foundation’s college program, and I joined Lambeth Tigers as head coach for the u13 team, as well as doing work with their community sessions. I learnt a lot about delivering sessions, communicating effectively to a group and understanding a different side of the game I hadn’t previously experienced. During this year I developed a passion for coaching and became obsessed with wanting to help players improve their game but also their lives. This is why I started Habits2progress.

“I believe anybody can be great. Lots of people say it’s about your willpower- it’s about your habits. We help you align habits with your goals, to make success become effortless."
I want to use the experiences that I’ve had in my footballing and coaching journey to help people improve their life and their game!

Jake's story

Like many kids across London, I was brought up playing football from a very early age. At age 4 I attended my first football club; Balham Foxes. Since then I have been on trials at various professional clubs such as QPR u18s and Cystal Palace u23s. I have also represented England at the highest level of national school football where I attracted a number of top universities out in America.

Despite the setbacks, these experiences have allowed me to understand football on a much deeper level. Being able to understand the methods they use in the professional game out in America, to seeing firsthand what it takes to be a professional in the premier league. I can now take this understanding and channel it through my love for coaching.

Through this I had the opportunity of playing for Lexington Sporting who play in the third professional league in America. Unfortunately none of these experiences lead me to a professional contract.

Going forward I aim to have played and coached in a number of different countries to broaden my mind and expand my knowledge on how football should be played. I hope seeing a number of different playing styles and coaching styles will turn me into a more developed player and unique coach.

Olly's story

Football is a brutal business. Years of high-pressure environments—from pro trials to big games—have taught me the value of strong habits and mental resilience. These qualities go far beyond the pitch, and our goal is to help develop them through football. The mental side of the game is often underestimated, but without strength and consistency off the pitch, it’s difficult to perform on it.

While playing for the sixth form and a partnered non-league U18s side, I attracted interest from Premier League clubs like Tottenham, Leicester and Brighton. Although it didn’t lead to a contract, those setbacks helped build my character, making me not just a stronger player, but a better person.

Growing up in South London, I was scouted by AFC Wimbledon at the age of six and spent 10 years at the club. At 16, I made the decision to turn down a scholarship and focus on my education. I earned a place at a top football sixth form where I could continue playing at a high level while also pushing myself academically and trialing at professional clubs.

I’m currently playing at Step 2 of Non-League—just one tier below full-time football which is my goal—while also studying Business Management at university. We created this platform to pass on what we’ve learned as players, to players who are striving to improve. Our goal is to help develop better people through football, grounded in strong habits and a growth mindset.

Philosophy

Anybody can be great/ Greatness is Within Reach:

People with high “self-control” that have success across their life don’t have any special power or extra strong willpower. Their success is down to their habits that automate their behavior making it effortless to reach their goals. This is achievable!
